A wide variety of sedimentary rock hosted gold deposits have been identified within the fold belt including "Carlin" type, gold-bearing quartz carbonate vein systems and porphyry and breccia associated deposits.
According to a study completed by the US Geological Survey in 1999, the Qinling geological belt, which hosts several million ounce gold deposits, can be one of the most prospective areas in the world for Carlin type gold deposits outside of Nevada.
